Steve Earle/Strawberry Fields/Beatles mono

Steve Earle put on "Strawberry Fields" during his Sirius Outlaw Country show the other night and boy did that thing jump out. What in the hell were those boys up to, and what did we do to deserve it? Lemmy's purchase of Beatles mono box (prev post) made me curious and I checked out some reviews on amazon. First one prefers mono, he listened to them all mono and stereo on audiophile equipment, said the stereo remix had harsher sound. He also said original British vinyl stereo of Sgt Peppers was the best of all. This guy really appreciates Ringo's drumming and I want to delve into that a little more because I am skeptical even though I love the guy (the version I know, the one I read about--isn't that exactly who he is?)

Lemmy movie

Watched the first half hour of this new heavy metal rockumentary in me hotel room after harrowing plane flight this past eve.
Immensely entertaining, we travel with our hero to a record store where be insists on the Beatles box set in mono.

Lenny is the classic old-school English rocker, not a bit of irony, still rents his flat in LA because it's close to his favorite bar, the legendary Rainbow (I know where I'm going first when I visit LA).

Highlight so far: Lemmy and his son being interviewed, would fit right into Spinal Tap. Lemmy admits he has another son he's never met, summing up thusly: "You can't win them all -- where would you put it?"

Top notch website for Rory, he clearly has a strong fan base and someone maybe his brother wisely invested in a pro setup. A true blues geetar hero, did he ever come close in the US?

First Entry

Thinking about Tommy Bolin and Rory Gallagher yesterday. Saw them both in a single night, Atlanta, Ga., 1976. OK, this blog is titled Greetings from 1975 but the point of the title is that is the year from which a lot of this memory stuff pivots. I cannot believe anyone in their right mind would want to read any of this but maybe it'll help me write my book. And if you steal any bit of this I will hunt you down.

Tommy Bolin was a pretty cool looking dude, and even though he would be gone within the year, he looked every bit his 25-year-old rock star, guitar-kickin' self that night. I think Purple (with whom he was playing in Blackmore's stead) were on the weak side -- I cannot believe "Come Taste the Band" was reissued, but was it because of Tommy's presence; couldn't have been Coverdale's, eh? Anyhoo, he was on my side of the stage, a very young man but lookin' like a rock God. I remember a lot else but you'll have to read further to get it. Links below to both; I didn't realize Tommy was from Sioux City or that he was of Syrian descent.
